Nestled between Mecox Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, this property offers striking views but faces strict coastal building restrictions. With the ocean side off-limits, the design focused on the northern half facing the bay. A new contemporary home by Stelle Lomont Rouhani Architects replaced the original structure, joined by a two-story pool house and art studio.

The glass-walled pavilion connects the architecture to the surrounding ecology while preserving open views to the water. The septic field between the house and pool house was subtly raised to accommodate a pool and deck that link the two structures. Nearby, a parking area was tucked below grade and edged with a Corten steel retaining wall, its turf-block surface blending into the landscape. A meadow of native grasses and flowering perennials—switchgrass, bayberry, and red cedar—surrounds the pool, creating the illusion that the pavilion rests within a natural field.

The result blurs the line between designed and wild, lending a sense of serenity and openness to the compact site.
