LaGuardia Design Group collaborated with BMA Architects from the start to site and shape this home on a low-lying former farm field beside a freshwater pond.
LDG re-sculpted the terrain to anchor the structure naturally and preserve open views to the pond and ocean beyond. The surrounding grade was raised to meet the elevated floor level, and the pool was positioned to the side to keep the vista clear. Between the parking area and entry, soil from the excavation formed a gentle rise over the septic field, softened with turf steps that echo the home’s architectural detailing.
Native grasses and shrubs were planted along the pond edge to filter runoff and restore habitat, while meadows of bayberry and other indigenous species replaced traditional lawn. Turf was limited to outdoor living areas near the pool, creating a smooth transition from architecture to landscape. A sunken terrace by the entry, sheltered from ocean winds, offers a peaceful spot to enjoy the sunset—blending modern design with a natural, rooted sense of place.
