Christopher LaGuardia has practiced Landscape Architecture on the eastern end of Long Island New York for over thirty years. 

Chris is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects which is the highest honor the society bestows on its members. Chris also serves on the Stewardship Council of the Cultural Landscape Foundation in Washington D.C. and is a director of the Lake George Land Conservancy in Bolton Landing, N.Y.

After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1984 Chris apprenticed with M. Paul Friedberg and Partners in New York City and Architect Norman Jaffe in Bridgehampton N.Y.

The LaGuardia Design Group was founded in 1993 and has received numerous awards and accolades including the ASLA Award of Excellence in Residential Design, The ASLA Honor Award, Several NYASLA Merit Awards, HC&G Innovation in Design awards and The Boston AIA Merit award. 

LaGuardia Design has been featured in The New York Times, Architectural Digest, Garden Design and Landscape Architecture magazines. 

Additionally, LaGuardia has lectured on his work at the Museum of Modern Art, the ASLA National Conference, The New York Center for Architecture and the Parish Art Museum. 

When not at work Chris enjoys modern sculpture and art, competitive tennis, hiking, sailing and of course visiting gardens with his family.

Jane LaGuardia

Jane LaGuardia

Jane LaGuardia attended the University of Georgia and received a Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture and Agricultural Education. During her time at UGA. Jane studied under Michael Dirr, Ph.D, horticulture guru. Inspired and brimming with knowledge she began teaching design and horticulture in the public school system. After moving to the East End of Long Island Jane began working at Lynch's Garden Center, sharing her passion for plants and even spreading the beauty by gardening for private clients and estates.

Jane has been a vital member of the LaGuardia Design team since 1996. Her work spans many facets of the company including finance, advertising and public relations. Since moving to the private sector Jane still remains active in the public school system, spearheading multiple projects including the Southampton Community Garden, which teaches students to grow healthy foods to be served in the cafeteria. In addition, Jane is an annual participant at career day for the local high school promoting Landscape Architecture.

Ian Hanbach

Ian Hanbach

Ian joined the LaGuardia Design team in 2005 after graduating with a BLA from SUNY ESF. Since that time he has earned his NYS License while managing numerous projects, ranging from large scale residential designs to high end luxury resort planning.

He currently lives with his wife and son in Hampton Bays. In his spare time he enjoys taking in the natural beauty of the Hamptons and rooting for the Syracuse University Basketball team.

Daniel Thorp

Daniel Thorp

Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture
Cornell University May 2007

Daniel is a registered landscape architect in the state of New York and joined LaGuardia Design in 2007. He holds a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Cornell University with a concentration in residential design and construction.

Daniel has led a wide range of projects at LaGuardia Design from large scale residences to a million square foot park in eastern China.  He is a member of the ASLA and currently resides in Bridgehampton.

Alexander Bluedorn

Alexander Bluedorn

University of Rhode Island May 2009

Alex is a NYS Licensed Landscape Architect and joined LaGuardia Design in May of 2009. As a true native to Eastern Long Island, Alex has acquired a deep connection to the ecologically sensitive native landscape. He brings to the firm a thorough understanding of the landscape design process, a strong background in graphic communication techniques, and an in-depth knowledge of woody plant material and native plant communities.

While attending University, Alex was a teachers Assistant for courses in plant identification and landscape design theory. He was the 2008 recipient of the Rhode Island ASLA Merit for excellence in the study of Landscape Architecture.

Matthew Horvath

Matthew Horvath

Matthew graduated with distinction from Cornell University in May 2012, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture. While at Cornell, Matthew learned how to integrate the natural and built environments in an environmentally sensible way without compromising proper form and function.

A native to Long Island, Matthew grew up in Huntington, NY. Prior to joining LaGuardia Design in October 2012, Matthew participated in two internships on the prominent Gold Coast of Long Island where he gained first hand experience in residential design and historic landscape preservation. Matthew is actively pursuing New York State licensure.

Grant Wellman

Grant Wellman

Grant earned a Bachelor in Landscape Architecture with a minor in Horticulture from the University of Florida. Prior to joining LaGuardia Design in the spring of 2013, He worked for a renowned residential design firm in Naples, Florida and has worked on award winning projects in some of Florida and the Carribean’s most beautiful resort communities.

Grant brings to the firm expertise with technical drafting and computer rendering and experience in construction documentation, schematic design, and construction administration. Grant moved to the East End of Long Island in 2011 and was immediately drawn to its rich ecology and pristine landscapes. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and is actively pursuing licensure as a Landscape Architect.

Connor McInerney

Connor McInerney

Connor graduated from Colorado State University in the spring of 2013, earning a BLA. Immediatley after, he spent 6 weeks studying in Europe with a focus on French & Italian garden design. When returning home he immersed himself in an apprenticeship led by Daniel Tal, a published 3d modeling guru.  A wide & thorough knowledge of current software and technology is one of the various skills Connor brings to LaGuardia Design, which he joined in summer 2014.

Growing up in the greater Philadelphia area, Connor is no stranger to Long Island, and takes full advantage of its natural beauty and plethora of golf courses. He is currently pursuing LEED accreditation and NY/PA Landscape Architecture licensure, while enjoying day to day life in the Hamptons.

Charlotte LaGuardia

Charlotte LaGuardia

Charlotte has just recently officially joined the LaGuardia Design team. After spending her childhood weekends walking around job sites and garden tours, it only seemed natural for her to take a more active role in the office. 

Last year Charlotte graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education and Psychology from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Upon graduation Charlotte returned home to Sag Harbor to pursue her career as a  yoga instructor. She is currently teaching daily at studios across the East End. When she is not teaching Charlotte spends her time at LaGuardia Design managing the social media accounts and handling various office projects.

Sarah Schlichte

Sarah graduated from Cornell University in May 2015, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture and a concentration in City and Regional Planning. Sarah’s attraction to Landscape Architecture is further emphasized by her passion for the outdoors and urban sustainability. She is very interested in using her passion for the outdoors and skills in design to help fix environment degradation and reduce our impact on the land, while still creating a visually beautiful space.

A native to Long Island, Sarah grew up in Garden City, NY. She interned for LaGuardia Design in the summer previous before joining the team full time in 2015. Sarah is actively pursuing a New York State licensure.

Sarah graduated Suma Cum Laude from SUNY-ESF in May 2016, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture. While at SUNY-ESF, Sarah traveled to Christchurch, New Zealand to complete her capstone on temporary transitional projects. She is interested in integrating her knowledge of environmental sustainability and resiliency into beautiful and meaningful designs.

A native to Long Island, Sarah grew up in Lake Grove, NY. Prior to joining LaGuardia Design in October 2016, Sarah participated in two internships in New York City, where she gained firsthand experience in high end urban residential design and city planning. Sarah is actively pursuing New York State licensure.

John Hamilton

John Hamilton

SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry

John joined the LaGuardia Design team in 2017, after spending multiple years working in the design-build industry on the east end of Long Island.  He received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry in 2013.  While residing abroad, John completed his thesis study on the socio-cultural factors that define public space in Barcelona, Spain.  This intensive study allowed him to gain a special appreciation for the intrinsic connection between people and space in landscape architecture.

John has been involved in, and managed, large scale residential construction projects throughout the New York area.  He is a licensed Landscape Architect and currently resides in Hampton Bays, NY.
